U12 Greens (East A)
Whitechurch 4-7 2-4 Aghada
Our U12 green team made the trip to Whitechurch on Friday evening. The Aghada lads had a very busy schedule during the week, and heavy legs were evident after trips to the Aviva stadium and Cork City Sports leading up to this came. Thick black clouds loomed on the horizon with team, mentors and parents hoping the storm would pass by. The clouds passed but the storm hit on the pitch – Whitechurch played well around the middle of the pitch, picking off scores, while Aghada struggled to finish despite some great chances. Aghada were denied a score after a controversial goal mouth scramble and continued to press forward, with some herculean efforts from some, but Whitechurch seemed to have edge in the 50-50 challenges. Special mention to David Wallis who made some excellent runs both in attack and defensively. There was plenty of goal mouth action in the second half, with Aghada having 4 or 5 goal chances, but a tightly packed Whitechurch defence withstood the Aghada onslaught. Players were placed in unfamiliar positions as the Aghada mentors tried to shore up the gaps, but it was not to be for Aghada. Plenty for the coaches to work on at training with Crosshaven up next weekend.
