A Chara,

Whisper it quietly but September is here and the evenings are closing in. Winter is on its way but the games on the GAA field are still very much in full swing. Before we dive into these games, it was a big day for many of our young club members today as they received their leaving cert results. Well done to each and every one of ye and remember this is only the start of your journey into adulthood. On the other end of the spectrum, the first week is over for everyone who started or returned to school during the week. Hopefully ye all settled in well and are ready for the school year ahead. Don’t worry, midterm break will be here before ye know it! (Hopefully!!!)

Unfortunately, our intermediate hurlers lost out to East Cork neighbours Lisgoold last Saturday afternoon in Cloyne. Our lads put huge effort into representing Aghada all year but as it sometimes happens, things just didn’t go right on the day. There’s no doubt that this group of players will bounce back stronger than ever next year. Well done and a big thank you to Willie Wallis and his management team of PJ Hurley, Donal Godfrey and Donal Walsh who put in countless hours of work to prepare the team this year.

Fixtures:

On Sunday afternoon our premier intermediate footballers take on Castletownbere in Enniskeane at 2pm. This is a winner takes all clash with the victor heading into the knockout stages. In such a massive game for the club, it would be great to get a big crowd down west to roar our lads over the line. A reminder that tickets are only available online at the following link: Buy Here (No tickets needed for U16s).

Best of luck to Philip Moore, his management team, Captain Danny Creedon and all the players. Give it everything lads!

Best of luck to the Aghada Senior ladies who play Clonakility in Clonakilty at 6:45pm on Sunday evening in their third group game. The girls will be hoping to make it three wins from three so why not make the short trip from Enniskeane to Clon after the men’s game to show your support for the girls.

The annual Willie Ryan tournament takes place tomorrow, Saturday at 2pm in Rostellan. Come down to see the youth of the parish showcase their skills that they have worked on all year under the stewardship of their mentors.

Finally, Best of luck to our minor hurlers who face Bride Rovers in Killeagh tonight at 8:15pm in the County Quarter final.

World Cup Star in Rostellan:

On Tuesday evening, we had a very special visitor to our club grounds when Cormac O’Keeffe brought the IMART world cup trophy to Rostellan. Cormac was a vital member of the Sundays Well Rebels team who captured the world cup trophy on home soil in Cork during the summer. A big crowd turned out to greet and congratulate Cormac with Cormac in hot demand for photographs all night! Cormac tells us that he is already looking forward to the next world cup event in Italy in a few years’ time. Well done on your fantastic achievement Cormac.

Relay For Life:

Well done to everyone who took part in the Relay For Life event in Midleton CBS last weekend. A great event that is run for a very worthy cause. Thanks to all who helped support the Aghada GAA/Camogie/LGFA tent on the day and a special word of thanks to Vera and Jenny who put in a huge effort over the last number of weeks to organise the club's involvement.

Lotto:

There was no winner of last night’s lotto draw which means next week’s jackpot is a huge €13,000. Remember supporting our club lotto helps us greatly to run the club and maintain our wonderful facilities so please support if you can. Lands adjacent to Aghada GAA grounds – Rostellan

Aghada GAA club are investigating the prospects of developing land adjacent to our existing grounds at Rostellan with the view to expanding our facilities for the benefit of the community. Given the nature of the existing ground levels some studies will probably be required.

Our next step is for an earthwork's contractor, in conjunction/on behalf of Aghada GAA club to assess the ground conditions. This task will require a contractor to bring an excavator onto the land to dig a number of temporary trial pits across the site so that the ground conditions can be assessed.

The plan is to complete this task in September 2022.

Well, that’s it for this week. Keep an eye on social media tomorrow where numerous photographs will be uploaded from Cormac O’Keeffe’s visit to Aghada GAA with the IMART World Cup Trophy. A massive weekend for our Premier Intermediate footballers so please make every effort to get to Enniskeane. Don’t forget to wear the green and white and make your voice heard!!!
