A Chara,

A huge weekend ahead for our intermediate hurlers who take on Lisgoold in Cloyne on Saturday afternoon at 2pm. This is a massive game for our lads where we need to win to secure our spot in the county quarter final. Essentially this is a knockout game so please make every effort to get to Cloyne tomorrow to shout our lads on! Remember to wear the club colours to stand out in the crowd. It’s likely there will be a big attendance at this game so it is advisable to leave for Cloyne early and remember that tickets are ONLY available ONLINE at the following link: https://www.universe.com/events/aghada-v-lisgoold-co-op-superstores-ia-hurling-championship-tickets-32PVXH

Best of luck to all the players, Captain Ciaran O’Shea and manager Willie Wallace along with his management team.

Best of luck to the Aghada senior ladies footballers who play Bride Rovers in Rostellan at 4pm on Sunday evening in their second championship group game after an impressive win last time out against St Vals.

Well done to the Aghada junior camogie team who had a great win against Glen Rovers in Rostellan last Saturday evening in their first championship outing of the year.

Junior B Hurling Championship:

Last Saturday evening our Junior B hurlers had a fantastic win against Youghal in Shanagarry. Aghada faced a strong breeze in the first half but resolute no nonsense defending from Alan Walsh, Brian Morrissey and Aaron Atkinson kept Youghal’s score down. Aghada’s cause was also hugely helped before half time thanks to a well taken goal from Matthew Leahy who dispatched an unstoppable shot to the back of the Youghal net after great work from Luke O’Connell. When the half time whistle sounded Aghada found themselves level but with the wind at their backs in the second half. The wind needed to be used efficiently but unfortunately from our point of view it was Youghal who got the better start to the half. Aghada continued to hang in the game thanks to great work from Ray Savage, Aaron Stafford and Aidan O’Connell and eventually got their break when a shot (maybe it was a pass!) from long range by Aaron Stafford found Mattie Leahy thirteen metres out before the East Ferry man buried his second goal of the game. Aghada never looked back from this point with Fionn O’Connell, Jordan Halpin and Ben Stafford all working tirelessly. Of course the game was still not over and the limelight was saved for the two O’Keeffe’s. Stevie was first into the limelight with a fabulous point from the side-line moments after being introduced as a substitute. Everyone in attendance had this down as the score of the game but Sean Og O’Keeffe had something to say about this! Moments after his own introduction to the game, the ball bounced on the Youghal twenty one metre line. It seemed as if the Youghal full back was going to emerge with the sliotar but Sean Og had different ideas. He scooped the ball over the Youghal number three before gathering possession and riffling the sliotar to the back of the net. A Pearse O’Neill style finger wag followed which signalled it was Aghada’s day on a score line of Aghada 3-12, Youghal 0-13. Best on the day for Aghada were Aaron Stafford, Cian O’Shea and man of the match Ben Stafford. This win now guarantees a quarter-final spot for Aghada with one game remaining. Well done lads.

Club Clean Up Day:

Of course before our B grade hurlers played last Saturday, there was the little matter of giving our club grounds a facelift. It was extremely refreshing to be in Pairc Liam Ui Riain where over thirty club volunteers turned up to lend a hand on the day. There was fantastic work done with nearly the entire complex getting a FEW coats of paint in the club colours of green and white. It was great to see both young and old helping out which epitomizes the GAA and our club as a whole. Special credit should go to chairman Anthony Connolly who coordinated the day and also wasn’t afraid to test out the new PA system! As well as a shout out to Anthony, I feel it is only right we give a shout out to former chairman Jimmy O’Leary who was one of the leading lights over the last couple of years in organising our new and improved fundraising initiatives including Rebels Bounty and the club lotto. Without these fundraisers and everyone’s support to both Rebels Bounty and our club lotto, days like last Saturday would not be possible. A massive thanks to everyone who ventured down to Rostellan last Saturday. Your help was greatly appreciated. Thanks to Kepak Group for kindly sponsoring burgers for our hardworking volunteers on the day.

Finally, could we ask that everyone who visits our complex to please show the grounds the respect they deserve. It took a lot of hard work to paint all the walls etc so please make every effort to keep them clean. I.E. Please refrain from pucking sliotars and kicking footballs against the newly painted walls and dugouts.
