Camogie News 11/04/2026 by Camogie PRO Deirdre Haughey

Camogie returned for all ages from U8s last Wednesday, April 1st and what a sight it was to see the pitches full of girls back at it! This coming week we’ll add the U6s to the mix and these little future stars will get their first outing on the grass, they’ve been working hard indoor with Pat O’Connell these past few months.

This season marks a truly historic milestone for Aghada GAA: for the first time in our club’s history, we have two adult camogie teams competing. It’s a testament to the incredible growth, commitment, and passion of our players, coaches, and supporters. To have the numbers, talent, and spirit to field two adult teams is something we’re immensely proud of. Best of luck to all involved — we can’t wait to see both teams representing the green and white with pride all season.

v Premier Junior League

Our Premier Junior team had their first league match of the 2026 season away to Carrigaline on 30th March.

The sides battled well in the first half and the Aghada girls held their own. However, Carrigaline had the extra edge in the second half and ran out with a comfortable win. It was a good, tough game and despite the loss, the girls took away some positives to learn from.

The second league game was against Castlelyons at home on Monday this week, 6th Arpil. Knowing they were in for a tough battle here the girls were focused and gave a very good display of camogie in the first half and were leading at the short whistle. They didn’t sit on it and started the second half as they did the first. Castlelyons didn’t lie down either and put the girls under a lot of pressure, reducing the score on the board. Our girls rallied together and with some lovely passages of play and hard-earned scores, did enough to secure the win.

Next up: away to Blarney, Monday 13th April, throw‑in 7.30 pm. Best of luck girls, keep up the winning momentum, girls!

v U14 League

The U14s had their first league game of the season away to Kilbrittain-Timoleague on Saturday 28th March. With low numbers to start with this group of girls played with great courage and determination for the entirety of the game. With no subs, and with some mild injuries the girls rotated positions and played on. This was an exceptional example of pure grit and fantastic teamwork; with everything against them this brilliant group of girls managed to pull back and draw the game. A result we are immensely proud of and a great start to their season.

Next fixture: home vs St. Colum’s, Sunday 12 pm. Come out and support them!

v U13 Imokilly League

The U13 girls hit the pitch for the first time last Saturday against Youghal in the Imokilly League - just as Storm Dave rolled in! Despite the wind and sideways rain, both teams played on. It turned into a real battle, with the weather proving to be the toughest opponent of the day. Despite the challenges, our girls worked hard, kept their heads up, and showed fantastic spirit throughout. While Youghal came away with the win, the effort, attitude, and resilience shown by our U13s in such testing conditions were hugely encouraging and a great foundation to build on for the season ahead.

Next up: away to Bride Rovers, May 4th. Best of luck, girls!

v U15 Imokilly League

Tuesday, March 31st marked the opening round of the U15 Imokilly League for our girls. We hosted Watergrasshill on a chilly evening on the Forest Pitch, but the cold didn’t dampen the spirit on display.

Short a few players, we called up a few of the U13s to boost numbers - and they stepped in brilliantly. It was a tough, physical game against strong opposition, but the girls battled hard from start to finish, showing great determination and teamwork throughout.

A challenging opener, but a performance full of heart and effort. Plenty to build on as the league continues.

v Coming next

Looking ahead to this weekend, there’s plenty more action on home soil:

·        U16s are out on Saturday, 11th March at 3pm, playing Ballinascarthy at home

·        Both of our U12 teams begin their league campaigns on Saturday at 11.30am, also at home, against Dungourney and Watergrasshill

Best of luck to all teams taking to the field - we’re excited to see the green and white flying proudly once again. The season is only getting started, and there’s so much to look forward to.
