A Chara,

The first week of 2025 is nearly over already and with that we can begin to look forward to a season full of GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football action. Unfortunately, the long kick was postponed today due to the bad weather but this will be refixed in the near future. Keep an eye out for this.

CLG Áth Fhada Victory Banquet:
2024 was a historic year for our club and we will be celebrating this at our upcoming victory banquet in Midleton Park Hotel at 7:30pm on Friday the 31st of January. A fantastic night is guaranteed as we celebrate our U21 Footballers East Cork success along with our Senior Ladies County Championship victory. On the night, we will also have other presentations to acknowledge other club member achievements from 2024.

A three course meal will be followed by live music from Bog the Donkey and the night will be rounded off with all the modern day hits from our DJ. Tickets (priced at €60) will be available for purchase next week in the clubhouse on the following days:

Wednesday 8th January: 7:30-8:30pm.
Friday 10th January:7-8pm

Cash and revolut will be accepted on the night.

Ireland Lights Up:
We are delighted to announce that the Ireland Lights Up walk will be back next week. For 6 weeks, every Wednesday our club will host the walking event between 7-8pm. This event has been very well attended over the last few years and is a great way of getting fit in the new year along with getting out of the house for some fresh air and having a chat with friends! Irish Life, proud sponsors of the GAA Healthy Club programme, are once again onboard to host another 'Steps Challenge' through their MyLife health app. The challenge offers participants the chance to win a share of €30,000 in club funding that Irish Life has made available for the ‘Every Step Counts Challenge’ donation fund.

Everyone who downloads Irish Life’s MyLife app will also get rewarded for being active! Last year an incredible 40,000 participants from over 900 clubs joined the Every Step Counts Challenge on Irish Life’s MyLife app to get active and show their support for their local GAA club. To download the app, go to the app store, find the Irish Life My Life App and click download! Register and join the steps challenge. Make sure to select Aghada GAA as your chosen club when joining the steps challenge.

Week 1 is this Wednesday, the 8th of January between 7-8pm. Please arrive early. Thanks to our Healthy Club Committee for organising.

Rebels Bounty:
It's hard to believe it's Rebels Bounty time again! Tickets are available online at: https://rebelsbounty.ergogroup.ie/prod/rebelsbounty/join-draw

This draw has proved to be a brilliant success for our club since it was launched a number of years ago. Thanks to every single person who has purchased a ticket in the draw over the last few years. Without your support, maintenance and improvements to our grounds simply wouldn't be possible. This year we had a number of winners from Aghada including Alex Casey who scooped the top prize of €20,000 in October’s draw. Only a few weeks ago, Emer & Tara O’Keeffe won a tasty €1,000 in December's draw! This could be you in 2025. As they say, if you're not in, you can't win! So why not purchase a ticket and hope you are lucky in 2025! Click on the link above to join.

Championship Fixtures 2025:
So with the 2025 season upon us, we already have the GAA championship fixtures for the year ahead. Why not put these in your diaries now so you can count down the days until the key games.

McCarthy Insurance Group - Premier Intermediate Football Championship
Aghada Vs Nemo Rangers in Cobh at 5:30pm on Saturday the 26th of July.
Aghada Vs Bantry Blues in Kilmichael at 4:30pm on Saturday the 23rd of August.
Aghada Vs Aghabullogue in Ballincollig at 6pm on Saturday the 13th of September.

CoOp Superstores - Intermediate A Hurling Championship
Aghada Vs Kildorrery in Dungourney at 2pm on Sunday the 3rd of August.
Aghada Vs Erin’s Own In Carrigtwohill at 7:30pm on Friday the 15th of August.
Aghada Vs Ballygiblin in Páirc Uí Rinn 4:30pm on Saturday the 6th of September.

Some very exciting games to look forward to here. Get them into your diary! Great credit must go to Cork GAA officials who have prepared the master fixture plan for 2025. It gives players, mentors and supporters great certainty for the season ahead and allows everyone to plan accordingly without the fear of missing a crucial match!

The Camogie & Ladies Football club championship fixtures normally follow later in the summer. When we have them, we will share them!

That’s it for today. Remember, the Ireland Lights Up walk begins this Wednesday at 7pm in our club grounds. Victory banquet tickets will also be on sale on the night in the clubhouse!

Best of luck to everyone returning to work tomorrow after the holidays. Mind the roads in the cold weather and stay safe!
